– League of Legends 2024 season

Riot Games’ flagship game ‘League of Legends’ seeks various changes every time a new season begins. Although likes and dislikes may differ, there is no disagreement that continuous change is absolutely necessary.

There are many changes scheduled for the 2024 season. New jungle monsters are also added, and the map terrain changes considerably. We made a strong decision to completely delete the ‘mythic item’, which had been complained regarding by many users. Mythic items that have been purchased consistently for 3 years will no longer be available.

The new season is scheduled to begin on January 10, 2024. Before the new season begins, we’ve summarized what changes are coming to Summoner’s Rift.

– 2024 Season Gameplay Preview

■ Jungle monsters swallowed by the void

– Void Larva, which replaces the first Rift Herald – Users can now directly control the Rift Herald

The jungle is expected to face great challenges. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of the new Void Larva, which spawns in place of the first Rift Herald. 5 minutes following the start of the game, 3 Void Larvae will spawn, each with a 4 minute respawn cooldown.

What’s unusual is that even if you catch only one, the other two remain in the camp. One caught fish reappears 4 minutes later. They disappear 14 minutes following the game starts, so up to 6 can be created in one game.

When a Void Larva is killed, the entire team will receive the ‘Void Hunger’ effect, which grants additional damage over time to structures. The effect stacks as you kill more Void Larvae. Once you have killed 5 or 6 Void Larvae, Void Mites will continuously spawn, which can be beneficial to your siege. If you eat all 6, it will be of great help in sieges, so the influence of the top line in the early stages is expected to be strengthened.

The Rift Herald is also changing. The appearance has also changed, but if the summoner or an allied champion right-clicks on Rift Herald, he can mount it and control it like a Sion ultimate. When a Rift Herald controlled by a champion charges into a turret, it deals more damage than if it were not controlled by the champion. If it collides with an enemy champion, it can deal damage and knock them into the air.

– Baron Nashor will appear in 3 forms – Red Vine Spirit that will change following 20 minutes

If Baron Nashor appears in the canyon 20 minutes into the game, the jungle monsters will change. The Blue Sentinels and Red Vine Spirits, called ‘Blue’ and ‘Red’, will be reborn in a new form the next time they respawn. Transformed sentinels and vine spirits become more durable and difficult to hunt, but they provide beneficial effects to all allies except those in the dead state.

The cute canyon rock crabs also change. If you respawn 20 minutes into the game, you will be reborn as a Voidborn Rock Crab. When this rock crab is killed, a huge crystal weed effect spreads, revealing all nearby champions and wards. All ward health revealed in this way is reduced to 1, so you can expect a strong vision control effect.

Baron Nashor also has big changes. Baron Nashor now appears in the Rift in three forms, each with different characteristics. There are three forms: ‘Hunting’, ‘Area-oriented’, and ‘Clairsight’. Baron Nashor changes the terrain when he appears in the area-oriented and clairvoyant forms.

New unique attacks are also added for each form. The hunting form rains lightning down on all enemies, while the area-centric form pulls in nearby champions with its new hands. The Clairvoyant form opens a Void Rift, creating a damage-over-time area within the nest. It’s the most important object in the second half, so it’s a good idea to check it out.

■ Terrain changes that reduce the advantages and disadvantages of the red and blue teams

– Newly changed top line terrain – Newly changed jungle terrain

In the existing Summoner’s Rift, the Blue team was evaluated as having a relatively slight advantage. Perhaps that’s why the goal of this map change is to change the red team’s terrain to be similar to the blue team’s terrain.

Let’s start with the top line. There are two major changes: the existing terrain called ‘three-way intersection’ has been blocked by a wall. Second, a new wall and bush were created in the center of the river entrance. Because of this, ganking by returning to the three-way intersection became somewhat difficult. The bush in the middle is also a change that can cause serious injuries if you are not careful.

A new wall is being built in the jungle. It’s a new wide wall across from Baron Nashor’s Nest and Dragon’s Nest. The goal with the addition of the wall is to make it safer in the friendly jungle and provide some level of parity when mid laners roam to other lanes.

– Newly changed mid terrain – Newly changed bot terrain

For the mid line, the bushes on both sides were pushed outward to secure more space. A new path has been added right next to the turret. This allows even mage champions with limited mobility to quickly run to the turret. Overall, Mage champions who lack mid lane mobility have become relatively safer.

The bottom line has small walls and bushes similar to the top line. There are additional changes specific to the Red team, with the Blue team’s three-way bush being replicated and a new gank path opened next to the turret. In the developer’s comment, he said that he hopes that the application of this change will create symmetry between the two camps and eliminate the advantages and disadvantages of each faction.

In addition, the terrain that changes for each dragon during the 3rd dragon timing has also been slightly changed. We moved around a few small walls and bushes created by the Earth Dragon and the Sea Dragon. The Flame Dragon will undergo systemic changes.

When the Flame Dragon takes control of the Rift, it creates fiery embers across the map, granting adaptive stats and temporary movement speed whenever champions pick them up. Upon death, you drop half your stack of Cinders, which can be picked up by friendly or enemy champions.

■ Deletion of mythic items, addition of new items in large quantities

– You can no longer find mythical items in the store – Dozens of new items will be introduced to users

The biggest change within the new item system is the deletion of ‘mythic items’. The goal is to remove mythic items, move their power to champions, and add flexibility to builds. Also, the ‘stopwatch’ item, which provided many variables at a low price, is no longer available.

Item tooltips are also greatly simplified. The goal is to help you understand the explanation at a glance, and you can also check tooltips with detailed information such as numbers and coefficients if you wish.

All supporter quest items will be combined into one starting item. The starting items will be the same for all supports, but we will make them upgradeable in five ways so you can choose the item that best suits your champion, opponent, and play style.

The list of new items here is quite extensive, so I will only summarize the roles. Items that will change significantly this season include the Mage and Assassin roles. Newly added items provide powerful effects depending on the situation, so build selection is expected to become important. In addition, tanks, marksmen, warriors, and supports also received new items.
