N new coordinator of the Montargoise delegation of the League once morest cancer, G uylaine Moreau pursues an associative commitment that is well anchored in her. This history-geography teacher at the Ferrières-en-Gâtinais college joined the League in October 2021, following being confronted with the disease.
Trigger
“It gave me motivation, but I’ve always been a community activist. My illness was a trigger in the sense that it made me think regarding my priorities,” confides this mother.
She who did not run at all, now walks the roads of Gâtinais with tenfold desire. “Sport is very important to reduce the risk of recurrence and the side effects of treatment,” she says.
Followed at the Gustave-Roussy Institute, she benefited from supportive care such as adapted physical activity, dietetics or psychological support.
And she gives her all in her new role as coordinator. “We have four missions: prevention and screening, societal information, financial support for research thanks to the donations we collect, and finally, reception and support for patients and their relatives. We are working in partnership with the medical teams, the hospital’s oncology department in particular, home hospitalization, and we are waiting for a room at the Amilly hospital center,” she explains. Guylaine Moreau is very attached to this dialogue with patients, hence the importance of finding a place. Especially since the Montargis delegation, with the arrival of new volunteers, has revitalized itself following the Covid-19 crisis.
Cancer, migrants… A full volunteer commitment
The teacher will also be trained as a “resource patient”: “The role of the “resource patient” is to provide testimony to patients, intervene in medical training institutes in order to put the patient at the heart of care. »
In addition, this teacher is a volunteer with the Collectif Immigrés du Montargois. In this capacity, she held legal services in order to investigate migrant cases: “This commitment requires being in contact with the prefecture, lawyers, social services, associative and institutional structures. I entered it in 2014, following the Syrian migrant crisis,” she describes.
She also engages in her profession as a teacher by training other teachers on learning disabilities among students, such as dyslexia. Guylaine Moreau also gave French lessons to young non-native speakers, and volunteered on stays for adults with disabilities. “I traveled a lot in my childhood and lived abroad. It shaped my view of the world. »
Projects and energy are not lacking in this woman of conviction.
Actions. In addition to Pink October, the League Against Cancer carries out actions throughout the year.
