At around 3 p.m. on Monday, August 26, one by one the heads and deputy heads of the parties in the Congress of the Republic began to enter the headquarters of the Public Ministry (MP) in the Gerona neighborhood, zone 1, to hold a meeting with the Attorney General, María Consuelo Porras Argueta.
Many of the deputies arrived in pickup trucks with tinted windows and others with security, some even in vehicles with covered license plates, to hold a private meeting to which Porras had summoned them and in which the central topic would be the cases of usury in the country.
A few months ago, the deputies approved a resolution to urge action to be taken against “Colombian lenders” who have been linked to cases of usury through exaggerated loan charges.
A first meeting was held in February and the meeting on Monday was a follow-up to this process, as confirmed by the MP last week.
The meeting was attended by deputies from 12 parliamentary groups and no members of the Board of Directors.
Those who did arrive
Luis Aguirre, head of the Cabal bench
Jorge Castro, head of the Viva bench
Elmer Palencia and Carlos Enrique López Girón, head and deputy head of the Valor block
Cornelio Garcia, head of the All block
Nadia de León, head of the Nosotros block
Lucrecia Marroquín de Palomo, deputy leader of the Unionist bench
Adim Maldonado and César Fion, head and deputy head of UNE
Allan Rodriguez, Guillermo Cifuentes and Napoleon Rojas, chief and deputy chiefs of Vamos
Esduin Javier Javier, head of the Change block
Alexandra Ajci and Rodrigo Pellecer, head and deputy head of Elefante
José Pablo Mendoza, deputy head of Creo
Jorge Villagran, head of Azul
In recent weeks, following the approval of the budget extension, there has been talk about the intention of some lobbyists to promote the initiative that seeks to reform the MP Law to return to the President of the Republic the power to remove the Attorney General on duty.
However, the deputies say that the issue has not been discussed due to the “current situation.”
