Le Monde: France refused to hand over digital map of Belarus to Ukraine | Belarus Ukraine War | AFN | Belarusian news | Republic of Belarus

Ukraine asked Paris for a digital map of the territory of Belarus, but France refused to do so, writes Le Monde, citing its own sources.

Digital maps, or DTED – Digital Terrain Altitude Data – detail the terrain and also list obstacles – such as high voltage lines or wind turbines, as well as military equipment that might pose a danger to the pilot, the newspaper writes. All this information allows combat aircraft or drones to perform tasks at low altitude.

According to an expert interviewed by Le Monde, these maps, which are created using satellites and are constantly updated, can help Ukrainians set up drones to strike at a target in Belarus, as they have done several times in Russia, in particular, in the Belgorod region, notes newspaper.

Paris justified its refusal by the fact that France will invariably support Ukraine as long as it is a matter of protecting Ukrainian territory, but there can be no question of participating in operations on the territory of other states.
