Over the period 2023-2025, the metropolis of Le Mans will invest 9.5 million euros for the hospital center. This envelope is part of an overall investment of 25 million euros which is spread over six years, until 2026. For this phase, it is a question of helping to finance a boarding school, the construction of a new pediatric building, the purchase of a surgical robot or even redoing the thermal insulation of the hospital center.
Retain surgeons
One of the challenges of this investment is in particular to respond to the discontent of surgeons. Last March, around fifty of them presented their “administrative resignation” to denounce very difficult working conditions. The metropolis has decided to subsidize up to 600,000 euros for the purchase of a surgical robot.
According to the mayor of Le Mans, Stéphane Le Foll, the acquisition of this robot will make it possible to meet their expectations, “surgeons want to continue their careers at Le Mans but for that they need tools that can be found elsewhere. The gap between what they can do at Le Mans and what they might do elsewhere, if we let it widen, we risk losing these doctors.“

A new boarding school
To develop the attractiveness of the region, the metropolis is relying heavily on boarding school projects. An interns’ house, located outside the hospital, should open next November. This Thursday, the mayor, Stéphane Le Foll announced the construction of another boarding school, this time inside the hospital center. The structure will accommodate approximately 150 interns. A grant of two million euros is attributed to him. These two boarding schools will between them be able to accommodate more than 260 students.
On the list of subsidized projects include the CHM nursery with an envelope of one million euros, one million euros in particular for the renovation and extension of the SAMU-SMUR or two million euros for the construction of the new pediatrics building.
