The 14th edition of the literary festival Le livre sur les quais (LSQ) ended on Sunday in Morges with very positive results. Over three days, nearly 40,000 people came to meet the 180 or so authors invited this year.
Under the chairmanship of the French writer Marie-Hélène Lafon, the dedications, meetings, debates, cruises, literary performances, readings or youth workshops of this 2023 edition of the Book on the quays took place under radiant weather. Officials indicate an attendance of nearly 40,000 people attending more than 170 events, i.e. an influx of the most beautiful editions.
“Enchanting lake setting”
“A popular success whose key to success, beyond the wide range of guests and the program itself, remains the enchanting lakeside setting and a quality readership”, summarize the organizers. They also welcome an increase in book sales, “reaching gratifying records this year”, without going into the details of the figures.
From Friday to Sunday, the two main tents – Dedications and Bookstore – were always full. Nearly 180 authors, more than half of whom were Swiss writers, came to Morges to meet the public. Many events were sold out, including the two opening meetings at the Casino with Amélie Nothomb and Marie-Hélène Lafon.
In addition to these two authors, the public will have been able to meet pell-mell, Jonathan Coe, Andreï Kourkov, Mathias Enard, Elisa Shua Dusapin, Daniel de Roulet, Etienne Barilier, Ségolène Royal, Eric Reinhardt, Capucine Ruat, Léonor de Récondo, Pierric Bailly, Nathacha Appanah or even Sylvain Prudhomme, David Vann, Joyce Maynard and Peter Stamm. The program also made it possible to discover many emerging feathers.
Final chapter for director Fanny Meyer
“I am very happy with the attendance and the atmosphere that reigns in Morges. Every year, the magic happens. I particularly thank all of my team and the volunteers who take care of the welcome of our guests and the public. C This is what makes the success of this festival, which is part of the Swiss and international literary landscape”, declared Fanny Meyer, director of the Livre sur les quais since 2020, of which it was the last edition at the head of the event. She was recently appointed as a book ambassador in Lausanne.
Romania was the guest of honor of this edition and it was the Parisian editions POL that were highlighted. The bar “Chez Lisette”, inaugurated last year, with a literary scene, had been renewed. Just like the “speed booking”, where authors gave an overview of their book in five minutes in front of five people.
The 15th edition of the Book on the quays is already scheduled from August 30 to September 1, 2024.
