In the cultural program of the City, the municipal media library is offering for the first time an exhibition of astrophotography “Marvels of the Cosmos” produced by Nicolas Toulmonde, whose opening took place this Friday, August 4. It has been a great success with the public since its inception. The Toulmonde family, originally from the Ardennes, arrived in the Pyrénées-Orientales in 2000 and moved to Le Boulou in 2003: Nicolas was then 14 years old. Student at the college of Canet-en-Roussillon, then at the Maillol high school in Perpignan, after his baccalaureate, he obtained a BTS in management assistant. Nicolas works in his father’s publishing company. Since 2021, Nicolas has held the position of digital advisor to the town hall of Le Boulou. Nicolas has several passions: martial arts which he practices in two associations, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at Le Boulou (brown belt) and GorinKiai – Jutsu at Amélie-les-Bains (black belt). Passionate about computers, he practices astrophotography, also called astrophoto (AP), a discipline of astronomy and photography consisting in photographing celestial objects. The first known photograph of the Moon dates from the 1840s. At the end of the 19th century, in connection with the development of photographic techniques, shots of stars were taken. Astrophotography makes it possible to obtain images of nebulae, galaxies, faint stars not visible to the naked eye due to their low magnitude and has revolutionized astronomy by making it possible to catalog hundreds of thousands of new stars. Nicolas Toulmonde, through his magnificent photographs, reveals all the beauty offered by space. Each of his shots can thus be viewed for its artistic but also scientific aspect.
