Siemen Voet: Debuting Late but Right on Time!

While some players make their debut on the European and international scene earlier and earlier, there are others who have to wait longer. Much like waiting for a bus only to realize it’s a blimp on the horizon—talk about dramatic entrances!

This Tuesday, in a twist of fate that would make any football fan raise an eyebrow, Siemen Voet finally took to the hallowed turf of the Champions League at the ripe old age of 24. Trained at Club Brugge, he had a bit of a nomadic journey, going on loan to Roeselare and Mechelen, as if he was auditioning for “Survivor: Belgian League Edition”. Quite the résumé!

European Debut

And what a debut it was—although “complicated” seems to be the understatement of the day, as he faced Dinamo Zagreb in a match that ended in a *crushing* 1-4 defeat. Not quite the grand entrance you hope for, was it? But hey, on the plus side, at least he’s got that Champions League badge—just don’t remind him of the score every time he looks at it!

It’s worth noting that Slovan Bratislava is currently having a mud-slinging affair with the Slovak Super Liga, winning titles left and right like they’re at a game show where every turn wins you a new fridge. Since 2019, they’ve held onto the trophy tighter than your grandma holds her secret cookie recipe!

Future Red Devil?

Now, what does the future hold for Siemen Voet, aside from post-match pizza? He was a Belgian international for the U17s and U21s but has yet to prance about in a Red Devils kit for the senior squad. Whether his Champions League debut will catapult him into the senior team remains to be seen. With Belgium’s nail-biting finals against Israel and Italy already on the horizon, there’s a slim chance—let’s be honest, it’s less a chance and more like a flutter on a crisp autumn day.

As a reminder, the Red Devils are gearing up for their final two Nations League matches, and you know what that means—waves of anxious fans clenching their seats while trying to remember what a “quarter-final” even looks like!

While some players make their debut on the European and international scene earlier and earlier, there are others who have to wait longer.

This Tuesday, there was one who had the opportunity to debut in the Champions League at the age of 24. Trained at Club Brugge, he went to Roeselare and Mechelen on loan before being sold to PEC Zwolle for 75,000 euros in 2021. A year later, he was sold for double that to Slovan Bratislava.

European debut

And it was with this club that he made his debut in the Champions League with a duel against Dinamo Zagreb. A meeting which was complicated for the central defender since the Croats won 1-4.

Leader in the Slovak Super Liga, Slovan Bratislava continues to win titles. Since 2019, the Slovaks have never allowed another club to experience the joy of winning the national champion trophy.

Future Red Devil?

As for Siemen Voet, he was a Belgian international for the U17s and the U21s but never came into play for the Red Devils. Difficult to know if this can change. His debut in the Champions League could change things, even if there is obviously a lot of competition.

As a reminder, Belgium will play its last two Nations League matches against Israel and Italy. There remains a chance for the Red Devils to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
