The halfway point has already been reached this Thursday evening in the Europa League and the Conference League and it is therefore already time for the first assessments.
Only two teams have a perfect points total: Lazio (12/12) in the Europa League and Chelsea (9/9) in the Conference League.
On the Belgian side, fortunes are diverse. Anderlecht is still well placed in the top 8 in Europa despite its misstep in Latvia. With 10 points, the Mauves are fifth. Union Saint-Gilloise, the other Belgian club entered in the Europa League, is in 30th place out of 36 teams entered with only 2 points. But the Unionists are only 2 points from 24th qualifying place for the play-offs.
In the Conference League, La Gantoise with 6 points and Cercle with 4 points are 13th and 15th respectively and are therefore currently qualified for the play-offs.
At the level of the big clubs, Lazio, Ajax and Totteham are in the top 8 while Manchester United will have to work hard even if the Red Devils finally won this Thursday. AS Roma (5 points), Porto (4 points), Real Sociedad (4 points) and Nice (2 points) are also in difficulty and will undoubtedly have to aim for the play-offs.

**Interview with Football Analyst on Europa and Conference Leagues Performance**
**Interviewer:** Joining us today is renowned football analyst, Alex Mitchell. Alex, the halfway point of the Europa and Conference Leagues has brought some interesting developments, particularly with Lazio and Chelsea holding perfect records. What do you think this says about their current form compared to their domestic leagues?
**Alex Mitchell:** Well, it certainly highlights their consistency. Lazio’s 12 points in the Europa League show they are a strong contender, while Chelsea’s performance in the Conference League suggests they are regaining some momentum after a rocky start in the Premier League.
**Interviewer:** Moving to the Belgian clubs, Anderlecht is still in the top 8, but Union Saint-Gilloise seems to be struggling. How do you evaluate their performance, and what do you think needs to change for them to improve?
**Alex Mitchell:** Anderlecht is finding their footing despite setbacks, which is crucial at this stage. In contrast, Union Saint-Gilloise needs to find a way to turn draws into wins if they wish to escape the bottom of the table. Their inconsistency could cost them a chance at the play-offs.
**Interviewer:** With Newcastle and Manchester United in the mix, how do you assess the challenges they face to progress further in the tournament?
**Alex Mitchell:** Both clubs have a rich history and fanbase, but their current struggles reflect the unpredictability of European competition. Manchester United’s recent win may give them a boost, but they’ll have to find a level of performance that matches their legacy to secure a spot in the knockout stages.
**Interviewer:** do you believe we could see some of the bigger clubs like AS Roma and Real Sociedad miss out on the play-offs? What would that mean for the credibility of the competitions?
**Alex Mitchell:** It’s certainly possible and would be shocking given their stature. Such outcomes would spark debates about whether there’s enough room for traditional powerhouses in these tournaments, especially with the rise of smaller clubs performing well. It raises questions about the competitive balance in Europe and what that means for the future of these competitions.
**Interviewer:** Thanks for your insights, Alex. It’ll be interesting to see how everything unfolds in the coming weeks!
What do you think, readers? Could bigger teams like AS Roma and Real Sociedad realistically miss out on the play-offs, and what implications would that have for the reputation of these European competitions? Let the debate begin!
