Alonso Medina Roa, lawyer and human rights defender, was detained this Wednesday at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, where the authorities prohibited him from leaving the country.
The specialist in military criminal law was going to travel for family reasons, when Immigration officials informed him that he had an order prohibiting him from leaving the country.
After being detained for two hours, the Immigration officials transferred him to the Interpol office at the Maiquetía international airport. He was there another hour and a half, until the authorities allowed him to leave.
“After prohibiting me from leaving the country and remaining three and a half hours held at the Maiquetía International Airport, they allowed me to leave, indicating that I should go to the Cicpc Antiterrorism Division, a unit that issued the order prohibiting my departure,” Medina Roa reported. in Twitter.
The lawyer is recognized for having participated as a defense attorney in several emblematic cases involving political prisoners, including the lieutenant commander Rafael Acosta Arévalo, assassinated by torturers.
She is also part of the defense, together with other lawyers, in the cases of Colonels Oswaldo García Palomo and Jhonny Mejías Laya. Both are linked to alleged acts of terrorism and treason once morest the country.
