Law of Measures to Confront Epidemics: Disrupting Work, Studies, and Closing Places of Worship – Safeguarding Public Health and Safety

The Law of Measures to Confront Epidemics and Health Pandemics authorized the Prime Minister, following the approval of the Council of Ministers, in the event of an outbreak of epidemics or health pandemics, to issue a decision to take any of the necessary measures to confront these dangers in a manner that preserves public health and safety.

Disrupting work and studies, and closing places of worship

And at a time when Egyptians are increasingly interested in the extent of the spread of the new variant of the Corona virus EG5 in Egypt, especially following monitoring two cases of infection of citizens with the new variant, the law approved powers for the government to take measures in the event of an outbreak of epidemics, the most prominent of which came as follows: –

1- Placing restrictions on people’s freedom of movement, passage, or presence at certain times, whether in specific areas or throughout the country.

2- Partial or complete disruption of work in ministries, government departments and agencies, local administration units, public authorities, public sector companies, public business sector companies, other state-owned companies, and the private sector.

3- Disrupting studies, partially or completely, in schools, universities, institutes and other educational institutions and any gatherings of students with the aim of receiving knowledge, taking the necessary measures regarding exams for the academic year, and disrupting work in nurseries.

4- Determining the opening and closing times for public stores, as well as ordering the closure of all or some of these stores.

5- Organizing or prohibiting public meetings, processions, demonstrations, celebrations and other forms of gatherings, as well as private meetings.

6- Organizing or prohibiting holding exhibitions, cultural festivals and other cultural activities, and receiving cinemas, theaters and cultural houses for their visitors.

7- Organizing or prohibiting the reception of sports and popular clubs, youth centers, gymnasiums and health clubs for their visitors.

8- Organizing or prohibiting the reception of people in places of worship and the places attached to them.

9- Prohibiting or restricting the use of public transportation and privately owned mass transportation.

10- Requiring citizens to take all precautionary measures and health precautions prescribed by the health authorities, including wearing protective masks and receiving vaccinations while visiting or visiting specific places.
