The City of Lausanne adopts the continuation of the Living Streets program, started in 2018. In order to achieve its objectives (pedestrianization of the city center, and redevelopment of the districts), it has a budget of 12 million francs allocated to nearly of 80 projects. These will make it possible to support the major transformations underway and to come (tramway, metro, BHLS, requalification of major urban squares). In order to determine the sites concerned, a roadmap will be established in consultation with the population, businesses and their customers.

In addition, over the next five years, the municipality intends to quickly and efficiently deploy some sixty new moderate zones that have already been identified. Lausanne wishes to pay particular attention to the treatment of public space around schools and extracurricular establishments, through various measures to secure the way to school and the appropriation of public space by children. Seven sites will thus be transformed, with streets that are more playful and conducive to children’s discovery.

The heart of the city has heat islands and mineral spaces that are poorly adapted to climate change. In order to fight once morest their effects, the second part of the Living Streets program will also aim to support greening projects and tree planting measures. It will also allow the creation of permeable surfaces, replacing certain current coatings.
