Lausanne: The Vaud capital forecasts a deficit of 81 million francs in 2023
Despite a 4.9% increase in income, the City’s budget for 2023 shows a deficit, of which 58 million francs are linked to the economic and energy crisis.
“The 2023 budget is marked by the consequences of inflation, the crisis in Ukraine and the energy transition, which weigh approximately 58 million francs on the projected result. These are mainly envelopes to finance the additional costs related to energy and the energy transition by allocating the profit linked to fossil gas to a specific fund, ”announced the City of Lausanne on Tuesday morning.
Early childhood and climate
As part of its one-child-one-place policy, the authorities of the Vaudois capital plan to create 765 additional places in Lausanne childcare centers for an amount of 6.5 million francs. As for the Climate Plan, the energy sanitation of buildings belonging to the City should lead to 107 million in expenditure. School buildings and sports facilities will gobble up 40 million francs. A similar amount is provided for mobility.
Estimated at 87.3 million francs, the increase in income is mainly due to the cancellation of the effects linked to the pandemic and taxes on the profit of legal persons, the expected increase of which is 13 million. But, if the revenues are up by 4.9%, the expenses are also. According to forecasts, they will increase by 5.7%. That is an amount of 106.4 million francs.
