The city of Lausanne is launching new support for the creation and publishing of comic strips. Each year, a creation grant of 15,000 francs will reward a project in progress. Aid for publishing will range from 1,000 to 4,000 francs per dossier.

The municipality wished to extend to the ninth art the support it already grants to various players in the book chain. It is thus launching two calls for projects in order to subsidize the production and publishing of comic books in Lausanne, it announced on Tuesday.

The deadline for participation is set for next July 31 for the scholarship and September 30 for the edition. The city will partner with the BDFIL festival for the award ceremony at the start of the school year. The Lausanne festival, which has just closed its doors, will also invite the scholarship winner to its next edition.

In the world of French-language publishing, comics are experiencing very strong growth in terms of publications and readership. This growth mainly benefiting “star” authors, the city wants to give a boost to its cartoonists and comic strip authors. The canton of Geneva, for example, supports Geneva authors.
