Since the age of 15, the English actress has played small roles on TV in “Luther” or “White Lines” as in the cinema in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Transformers: The Last Knight”. Married for six years until 2019 with comedian Sam Clafin of the “Hunger Games” saga, Laura Haddock, 36, has a busy schedule for 2022, starting with the new film “Downton Abbey: A New Era” in cinemas from Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

How to present your character in this second film “Downton Abbey”?

The action takes place in 1928. I play Myrna Dalgleish, a silent film star who arrives at Downton Abbey because the place is going to be used for the shooting of a film. So there is a total gap between the known and beloved characters of “Downton Abbey” and this actress that I play. This gives spice to the plot and upsets the daily life of the heroes that we have known since the beginnings of the cult series. It’s going to move at Downton Abbey.

Do you look like this diva you play?

Certainly not. She has a different energy than mine. Never apologizes, takes his credit…but I understand his personality. Even though I would never have been like her, it’s my job to find commonalities. Maybe Myrna acts like a diva to hide her doubts and insecurities. I have empathy for her.

You have played strong roles recently in series like “The Capture” on StarzPlay and “White Lines” on Netflix. How do you choose your projects?

When I started auditioning at 20 years old following my drama studies, I was just happy to get a job. Over the years, we become more selective and above all we organize our priorities. I appreciate less and less the need to travel or move around for a shoot. The idea of being in London at home with my children is number 1 on my list.

You have two children, Pip, 6, and Margot, 4. Do they follow you on sets?

I try to navigate between my career and my life as a mother like all those who have children. It’s not simpler or more complicated when you’re an actress, just different because I may have to be absent for several weeks non-stop and then be very present when I’m not filming.
