The Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, in cooperation with IBM, launched the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit, as part of the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The center aims to enhance cooperation between IBM and the university in order to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and harness them to advance sustainability efforts, develop carbon neutral solutions for energy supplies and meet the challenges of climate change, in addition to supporting natural language processing applications for Arabic dialects.
Experts from IBM and Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence are focusing on decarbonization efforts, as well as promoting advanced scientific research aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and ways to adapt to it. The joint research teams will work on developing AI accelerators and basic AI models, which can support the deployment of clean and renewable energy technologies in many key economic sectors, paving the way for the use of carbon-neutral solutions while enhancing adaptation and resilience mechanisms.
His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, President-designate of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence, said: “In line with the leadership’s vision to take advantage of the latest technological innovations, we are pleased to launch this center, especially as the distinguished technologies and innovations It has a major role in reformulating the methods used to produce and consume energy, and progress towards achieving climate neutrality, by harnessing big data to help solve challenges and make more effective decisions.”
