Under the impetus of the new additional funding for the year 2022 of 20 million euros dedicated to pediatric cancers and in order to continue the dynamic of strengthening research on childhood cancers, the National Cancer Institute publishes today call for applications to create senior international chairs. The objective of this call for applications is to enable senior researchers to be able to settle in or return to France, build their team and develop an ambitious research program in a French research structure. The proposed budget is a maximum of 2.25 million euros per chair. The chairs created will be dedicated to setting up a research program with no associated teaching activity.
Each year, approximately 2,300 children and adolescents under the age of 18 are affected by cancer, ie approximately 1% of all cancers diagnosed. Today, thanks to the results of basic research and the resulting medical advances, 8 out of 10 children are cured. However, these cancers remain the leading cause of death by disease in children over 1 year old. In addition, two thirds of children cured of their cancer suffer from sequelae related to the disease and the treatments received.
It seems essential to enrich the skills already present on the territory, by welcoming in France high-level researchers (foreign or French) residing abroad. This would represent additional and new support that might have a significant impact on pediatric oncology research.
ENCOURAGED COMPETITIVE RESEARCH ON AN INTERNATIONAL SCOPE
The call for applications is aimed at all senior researchers, with at least 15 years of experience since obtaining a doctorate in science, working abroad, without restriction of nationality. Candidates must demonstrate high-level experience in pediatric oncology research, attested by recognized scientific productions in this field of research (demonstrated by scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals with a high impact factor) . They must demonstrate a capacity for autonomy in the conduct of research work (obtaining funding, coordination of teams on a project, supervision, publications and scientific exploitation of results, filing of patents, etc.).
APPLICATION TERMS
The call for applications, open to all disciplines (hematology-oncology, biology, cancer sciences, human and social sciences, etc.) has no imposed research theme and applications from physician-researchers are encouraged. A maximum of two applications (ie team facility and associated program) will be funded.
The fundamental and/or translational research programs developed must be very original and innovative and will last 5 years.
The deadline for submission is extended to July 4, 2023 at 4 p.m. and access to submission is open from April 1, 2023.
