Latvia surprised EVERYONE by beating USA at the World Championship to take the bronze medal.
It’s only the bronze medal and they didn’t win the gold, some would say… But it goes much, much further than that. For what?
Quite simply because it is the first time that the country has won an IIHF medal. It’s not nothing, and on realizes it when we see the images of the celebration that took place in the country in the last hours.
There are people at mass.
Celebrations in Latvia to welcome home their ice hockey heroes who won bronze in the World Championship. Parliament convened to declare today a national holiday. The whole country is rejoicing.
This is what it means to be a nation.

Latvians are on the party since yesterday.
They made a more or less “respectful” gesture by going to lay flowers in front of the American embassy in Riga… But OK. Again, this is an important win for the country because it’s the first time they’ve been able to taste a medal.
No, the scenario would not have been the same in Canada if our representatives had won the bronze medal. It is not more following the victory of the Canadians in the final of the World Championship once morest the Germans.
But it’s not the same thing for reasons that are fairly obvious.
Obviously, when we think of Latvia, the name of Bob Hartley comes to mind. Recall that the main interested party held the position of head coach of the country from 2016-17 to 2020-21… And since then, the Latvians have become competitive on the international scene.
Bob Hartley, in a way that only he knows the secret to, was able to change the mentality of the players there. We know how much the former NHL has a gift for bringing an exemplary attitude within any hockey organization and it is today that his work is bearing fruit.
Without shouting it out loud, I have the impression that he played a big role in the “conquest” of the bronze medal for the Latvians.
And that, he can be proud of cursed. Without him, maybe Latvia wouldn’t be where it is today…
And it is noteworthy.
A lot of
– I would do the same.

– Well said.
Hernan Losada has always said that he prefers to look for a second goal when his team leads 1-0 because a win gives 3 points while a draw is just 1 point.
For now, the strategy pays off enough to get past Nancy and her Columbus ????#CFMTL pic.twitter.com/kik9tYwunL
