Latoue. A whole night, head in the stars

On the occasion of the Night of the Stars, the new association of Latoue, Lacunapa (Latoue cultures natures and heritage), organized, for its first event, a hike under the stars with departure and arrival at the Sainte-Radegonde chapel, Friday August 12 in the evening. Led by Jean-Luc, storyteller, who was to tell “Joan de l’Ors” during the hike, and in the presence of Tore Gronningsaeter, Norwegian astronomer, president of the Comminges astronomy club and adopted Latois, this hike delighted the hundred participants, including several children. The choice of this cultural event comes from the fact that this year, the annual spectacle of shooting stars or Perseids (swarm of meteors made up of debris from comet Swift-Tuttle near the sun, visible in the Earth’s atmosphere) reached its peak on the night of August 12-13 even though the full moon, illuminating the night sky, affected the visibility of the fainter shooting stars. But, protected from parasitic lights, all the participants in this nocturnal hike, led by Francis and of which Philippe and Jacques were queue-stoppers, were able to enjoy an unforgettable documented spectacle.
