Update from January 19th, 9:15 p.m.: A two-state solution is increasingly being proposed as a possible peace scenario for the war in Israel. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu categorically rejects such a solution, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has now called at an event in Spain for this solution to be imposed on Israel “from outside” if necessary. According to a report by the German Press Agency, Borrell sees this as the only solution that will prevent the “spiral of hatred from continuing to turn generation following generation.”
Borrell also accused Israel of financing the establishment of the Islamist Hamas in order to weaken the more moderate authority of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank and thereby prevent a Palestinian state. Israel’s head of government has repeatedly rejected this accusation, which has already been made by some of his critics.
Update from January 19th, 7:20 p.m.: It’s not just the military attacks on the Gaza Strip that are proving fatal for the civilian population. According to media reports, the situation in the medical facilities is also causing many deaths. This is what the British one reports Guardian of treatments and operations that would have to take place following three months of war without appropriate medication or anesthesia. Cancer patients – including children – would also have to forego necessary treatments.
According to interviews with health workers in the Gaza Strip Guardian highlights that the conditions in the hospitals are still deteriorating increasingly and experts are expecting a high number of indirect war victims in addition to tens of thousands of injured and dead people from the war.
War in Israel: Hamas representatives are said to have visited Russia for the second time
Update from January 19th, 4:51 p.m.: A delegation of Hamas representatives met with Russian diplomat Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow. If this information is correct, it would be the group’s second trip to Russia since the start of the war. “It was important for them to show that they are welcome here, that they are not isolated and that they actually see Moscow as their friend and partner,” quoted Al Jazeera Korrespondentin Yulia Shapovalova aus Moskau.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Yemen once more on Friday to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and once morest attacks by the US, Britain and others. In pictures from the Houthi-affiliated television station Al-Marisah Tens of thousands might be seen gathering in the rain alone in the capital Sanaa. According to the TV channel, the event was held under the theme “America (USA) is the mother of terrorism.” Some of the protesters shouted: “America is the biggest devil.”
Update from January 19th, 3:55 p.m.: Yemen’s Houthis have said they do not intend to further increase their attacks on ships in the Red Sea. “We don’t want the escalation to spread. That is not our demand,” skynews quoted spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam as saying. According to Abdulsalam, the Houthis “just wanted to put pressure on Israel.”
Since the war in Israel, concerns regarding an expansion of the conflict have increased. Great Britain and the USA carried out air strikes on the Houthi positions. The British politician, Grant V. Shapps (Conservative Party) visited the crew of the destroyer “Hms Diamond” on Thursday (January 18th) and thanked them for their mission in the Red Sea. The crew would “defend freedom of navigation, save innocent lives and ensure that commercial shipping is protected from illegal Houthi attacks,” according to a post on X.
Update from January 19th, 2:24 p.m.: The current plans for the EU military operation to secure commercial shipping in the Red Sea do not include a mandate for participation in US attacks once morest Houthi positions in Yemen. As several diplomats confirmed in Brussels on Friday, the mission will initially be purely defensive. European warships would therefore only be used as part of the EU mission to protect cargo ships in the region. The use of weapons would only be possible to ward off attacks on merchant ships or for self-defense.
According to government circles, Germany wants to take part in the military operation with the frigate “Hessen” – provided that the Bundestag issues a corresponding mandate following the EU planning has been completed. According to current plans, the EU military operation should be decided at a meeting of foreign ministers in February at the latest and then launched immediately.

In a statement, the Houthis said retaliation for the British and American attacks was inevitable and any new aggression would not go unpunished. According to the US, the US freighter was not damaged. Two anti-ship ballistic missiles were fired at the tanker. However, these only hit the water.
Two-state solution following the end of the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas? Netanyahu says “no”
First report from January 19th: Tel Aviv/Gaza – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a Palestinian state following the end of the Gaza war, in open contradiction to the USA. “From every area we withdraw from, we get terror, terrible terror,” Netanyahu said. This happened in southern Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. With regard to a two-state solution, Netanyahu said: “Israel’s prime minister must be able to say ‘no’ when necessary, even to our best friends.”
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made it clear at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week that a lasting solution for the region must include the vision of a Palestinian state. Otherwise, Israel will not have any real security. Many Arab and Muslim countries have recently changed their attitude towards Israel and are now interested in stable relations. Israel must decide in which direction it wants to develop.
War between Israel and Hamas: Rockets fired from Syria into the Golan Heights
Meanwhile, according to the Israeli military, three rockets were fired from Syria into the Golan Heights on Thursday evening. When asked, the Israeli army said the bullets from the neighboring country struck both in open areas near a community in the area and on a country road. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in London, militias working with Hezbollah in Lebanon fired the projectiles towards the Israeli-occupied part of the Golan Heights.
