NOBEL PRIZE
After being excluded in 2022, the Russian and Belarusian ambassadors will be invited to the next Nobel Prize banquet, the Nobel Foundation said in a statement released Thursday.

NO “PEACE” WITHOUT CRIMEA
While speaking before a business forum in Italy, Volodymyr Zelensky believes that there can be no “lasting peace” in Ukraine if his country does not manage to recover the occupied territories.

RETURN TO UKRAINE
More than 3.6 million Ukrainian children, including 400,000 displaced abroad, return to school on Friday, the second since the war started by Russia, according to figures provided by the Ukrainian presidency.
“The second September 1 after the full-scale invasion. The Russians are trying to do everything to destroy our nation … The nation has preserved the possibility for children to go to Ukrainian schools,” said congratulated the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andriï Yermak, on Friday on Telegram.

CRIMEA
According to the British Ministry of Defence, Russia has set up an “underwater barrier” to protect the Crimean Bridge, which spans the Kerch Strait. “As of August 29, 2023, footage confirms that Russia has created an underwater barrier consisting of submerged ships and containment booms to deter naval drone attacks,” the UK defense said on Friday.
For London, these “passive defenses” are necessary because of the importance of the bridge in the context of “military logistical support to Russian forces” currently in the region of Kherson and Zaporizhia.

MOSCOW
Russia thwarted a new nighttime drone attack in the Moscow region on Friday, said the mayor of the Russian capital, who did not report casualties or damage.
On Friday, “the air defense forces near Lioubertsy (east of Moscow, in the Moscow region, editor’s note) foiled a new attempt to direct a drone” against Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram.
“There were no injuries or damage, according to initial information,” added the elected official, adding that the emergency services were on site.
Drone attacks against Russian territory and the Crimean peninsula annexed in 2014 have multiplied in recent weeks, targeting the Russian capital in particular, against the backdrop of a counter-offensive from Kiev that began in early June.
