During the last few weeks, the country has witnessed a series of debates in Congress aimed at discussing the bill that sought to legalize recreational cannabis use for adults; However, following spending 7 of the 8 sessions in Congress, it finally collapsed. Once the opinion of Congress on the subject was known, one of the people who took advantage of social networks to share her position was the journalist Vicky Dávila who in her message of encouragement even thanked God because the project did not pass.
“Bless God: adult marijuana regulation tanked. Our young people will be able to be more protected. Good for the congressmen who did not let themselves be entangled with a business at the expense of addictions. We must continue fighting to eradicate drugs and not promote them. Drugs are bad and they destroy lives,” said the journalist.
It should be noted that bills seeking to regulate cannabis have been presented several times in the Congress of the Republic, and this effort has failed repeatedly. Despite the fact that the consumption, possession and self-cultivation of up to 20 cannabis plants is allowed in Colombia, its commercialization continues to be illegal.

What the initiative sought was to allow marketing through a modification to article 49 of the Constitution, which included the exception of cannabis for these psychoactive substances. This, of course, would allow the specific regulation of its commercialization and an established taxation for those who dedicate themselves to commercializing it.
