The prefect of the North had announced the establishment of a temporary control zone and preventive measures in several municipalities.
After the discovery of a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza on Friday June 16, the prefect of the North had published a press release on Tuesday, June 28 which set up a Temporary Control Zone (ZCT). The latter, which included the municipalities of Dunkirk, Coudekerque-Branche and Village as well as Téteghem, announced various restrictions to prevent the risk of spreading the virus over a period of 21 days.
How has the situation evolved?
If no signs that may indicate the presence of the virus avian influenza is detected and no new case is declared in wild animals or in livestock outbreaks during the 21-day period, the control zone will be lifted. The point as we approach the 21-day limit (as of Tuesday July 18), is that at the moment there are no new suspicions or new cases. The lifting of the temporary control zone should therefore take place, at the latest, by the end of the week.
Stay vigilant though
The absence of new cases that might lead to the lifting of the control zone does not mean that all risk has been ruled out. The prefect of the North invites the locals to maintain careful monitoring of mortalities and abnormal behavior of birds.
