For 2024, the government of Giorgia Meloni forecasts GDP growth of 1.2% while it expected 1.5% in its April forecasts.
This forecast appears in the new economic roadmap adopted Wednesday evening by the Council of Ministers and which should serve as a basis for developing the 2024 budget.
“We are working to develop a draft budget under the seal of discipline and common sense,” commented the head of government, Giorgia Meloni, on Facebook.
The government has also raised its public deficit forecast for 2023 to 5.3% of GDP, compared to 4.5% previously expected, down significantly however compared to the 8% recorded in 2022.
For 2024, it expects a deficit of 4.3%, higher than the 3.7% it still forecast in its April forecasts.
With constant legislation, therefore without additional stimulus measures, the deficit would be 5.2% this year, and 3.6% in 2024.
At the same time, the government has sharply lowered its forecast for the public debt ratio, now expected at 139.6% in 2026 while it saw it in its April estimates at 140.4%, once morest 141.7% in 2022. .
