Ethereum is currently going through a complicated phase. After initial failures on the protocol layer earlier in the week, the network experienced another incident last night, and may not be out of the woods yet.
Ether down?
Barely recovered from its mysterious blackouts of the past few days, the Ethereum network again experienced an interruption in the operation of its validation nodes overnight.
Result, pending transactions, but also a new blow of heat for a network which it will be recalled that it supports a large part of Decentralized Finance and the most used stablecoins, without even counting the essentials of the large ecosystem of NFTs.
Like the first time, however, the situation recovered fairly quickly. The opportunity to recall once again that as unpleasant as these kinds of events may be, they in no way compromise the fundamental functioning of the network, or its security.

Good news for Ethereum (and not so good)
The good news – relative – it seems that the causes of these disturbances have now been identified, and are linked with Ethereum nodes using the Prysm client.
In detail, Ethereum nodes using the Prysm client might have received large amounts of problematic attestations leading the client to use more CPU and memory, all leading to a “death spiral”…. and transaction validation failure by nodes.
Prysm has already announced a patch in order to solve the problem.
The bad news is that according Beacon Chain Ethereum Consultant Superphiz, new similar incidents are to be expected. He thus urges Ethereum node operators to quickly update their configurations.
This kind of misadventure always has a bad effect for infrastructures often designated as having the vocation of supporting the Finance of tomorrow. However, we will relativize these few tens of minutes of wanderings, where certain other networks sometimes remained absentee subscribers for more than 20 hours.
