Agencies:
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed that Egypt had tried to ship humanitarian aid to Gaza, but did not obtain permission to do so.
Shukri said, in statements to CNN today, Saturday, “We are ready to return foreigners in Gaza to their countries as soon as they pass through the Rafah crossing.”
He pointed out that the Rafah crossing is open, but the bombing of the roads leading to it in Gaza made them “inoperable.”
Sources confirmed to Cairo News Channel that Egypt refused to open the Rafah land crossing to holders of American citizenship.
According to the news channel, Egypt stipulated that, in order to open the crossing and the entry of the Americans, Israel must allow aid to enter the Palestinians.
The channel continued: After the American citizenship holders arrived at the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side and waited for several hours, they turned back because Egypt refused to let them cross unless they agreed to open the crossing and bring in aid.
