After he was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to his deteriorating health condition, it was reported that Hannibal Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, suffers from severe infections in the spine and hypotension, as a result of his hunger strike.

The information indicated that, “Gaddafi was transferred yesterday evening to Hotel Dieu Hospital in Ashrafieh after his health deteriorated, and he stayed there for four hours, where he underwent the necessary medical examinations under the supervision of a staff of doctors and nurses.”

Since the third of June, Hannibal Gaddafi has continued his open hunger strike, in protest against the Lebanese judiciary’s continued detention of him for 8 years, in a move that would bring his file back to the fore again.

The information indicated that “a specialized doctor is supervising the follow-up of treatment for Hannibal Gaddafi inside his cell in the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces building, and that his condition is stable.”

The information confirmed that Gaddafi is continuing his hunger strike, and he only drinks water to take medicine.

In December 2023, Hannibal Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan president, completed 8 years in prison in Lebanon for the crime of concealing information in the case of the unseen Imam Musa al-Sadr and his two companions, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badr al-Din, who disappeared in Libya in 1978, after he was arrested in December 2015 when he was As a “political refugee” in Syria, before he was kidnapped from there and handed over to the Lebanese services.

Throughout these years, the son of the late Libyan leader did not provide any new information about the fate of the unseen Shiite leader Imam Musa al-Sadr and his two companions, and the judicial investigator has not yet issued his indictment.

Gaddafi is in a small cell in the Information Branch prison at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces, and only his agent is now allowed to visit him.

The defense team holds Gaddafi responsible for protecting his life on the Lebanese authorities, who still insist on continuing his detention without trial in a case in which he has no interest or interest, despite his health conditions.

On the other hand, there was no official Lebanese comment on the conditions of his arrest, the deterioration of his health, and his transfer to the hospital.

The file of Gaddafi’s son is still without a judicial settlement, despite the attempts of several Libyan parties to intervene for his release, and despite the negotiations that took place between his defense team and the committee in charge of the al-Sadr case.
