The Tampa Bay Lightning freed up some salary cap space on Sunday by trading forwards Pat Maroon and Max Cajkovic to the Minnesota Wild.
Tampa, which agreed to absorb 20% of Maroon’s salary for 2023-24, was awarded the Wild’s seventh-round pick in the 2024 draft.
Maroon, 35, is under contract for another season at a salary of $1 million.
The St. Louis native left winger is one of the few players to have won three consecutive Stanley Cups, between 2019 and 2021, with the Blues and Lightning.
During the 2022-2023 season, Maroon scored five goals and added nine assists in 80 games, in addition to accumulating 150 penalty minutes.
As for Cajkovic, a third-round pick from Tampa in 2019, he has mostly played in the ECHL the past two seasons.
