On the Italian Mediterranean island of Sicily, Europe’s largest active volcano, Etna, spewed large amounts of glowing lava into the sky on Sunday. In the evening, a thick cloud of lava, igneous gases and rock stood over the mountain, which is more than 3,300 meters high. According to the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the so-called eruption column reaches a height of 4.5 kilometers. Explosions might be seen and heard once more and once more.
