TransMilenio had to suspend operations at the Universidad Nacional station as a result of the demonstration.

19/4/2023

The protests became a habit every eight days in Bogotá. On the followingnoon of this Wednesday, April 19, a group of students from the National University once more began a demonstration on Avenida NQS, which caused mobility injuries in the sector of the country’s capital. This forced the presence of Esmad uniforms.

Both the mixed traffic road and the exclusive TransMilenio road were affected, to such an extent that the company of the mass transportation system in the city had to suspend its operation at the National University station.

“The fleet is starting the counterflow from the El Campín station, up to the 33rd race,” reported TransMilenio.

For its part, the District Mobility Secretariat and the Bogota Traffic Police began road closures and detours on 63G Street and 53rd Street.

But the NQS is not the only point in Bogotá where strong demonstrations are taking place this Wednesday followingnoon, since there are also protests on Avenida Circunvalar, near the District University, La Macarena headquarters.

As reported by the Ministry of Mobility, there are protests on Avenida Circunvalar with calle 26A, direction SN and on Avenida Circunvalar with calle 12D.

At around 5:09 in the followingnoon, according to the Ministry of Mobility and the Bogota Traffic Police, the demonstrations continue, causing road damage.

National University once more

The demonstrations affected the mixed road. The approximate capacity was regarding 15 people who were at the forefront of the protest.

Uniformed men from the Available Force of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police had to arrive at the scene to try to disperse the protesters.

Those who were protesting attacked the uniformed Police with incendiary bombs and blunt elements.

This is how these clashes that occurred eight days ago forced the closure of 26th Street, which generated chaos in mobility in this sector of the country’s capital.

“There is a blockade on 26th street with 33rd race, affecting the east-west road. Authorities are accompanying”, reported the Ministry of Mobility at the time. The authorities had no choice but to suggest taking Av. NQS to the north and Calle 53 to the west as alternate routes.

That day, in light of these confrontations, TransMilenio reported that it was forced to suspend operations at the Universidad Nacional station, which is located on the NQS. However, around 4:26 in the followingnoon, he reported that the service was restored normally.

According to what was reported by the District Mobility Secretariat, the roads that were most affected were: NQS with 53rd street, north-south direction, slow road, NQS with 63G street, north-south direction, fast road. For this reason, the corresponding authorities recommended that all drivers who move in the area take Carrera 50 to the west as an alternate route.

For its part, TransMilenio reported that the following stations stopped providing their service:

  • CAD.
  • Av. El Dorado.
  • National University.

However, around 7:08 p.m., the protesters dispersed from the area, reason for which the routes mentioned above were enabled normally.
