Leaks continue regarding the upcoming iPhone 16 from Apple, as the company is testing some design changes several months before entering the production stages of the phones expected to come in the fall of 2024.
Apple is working on the iPhone 16, and it will be a family of 4 devices, the regular and the Plus model, in addition to the Pro and Pro Max models.
According to what was published by MacRumors, Apple is intensifying tests on changes in the design of the iPhone 16, specifically with regard to the new commands button that first appeared in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
It is noteworthy that Apple replaced the phone switch button for silent mode in the iPhone 15 Pro, with a new command button, so that users can, through this button, choose one of the services that they can control, such as; Silent mode, focus, camera, flashlight, audio recording, subtitles, shortcuts, etc.
According to new leaks, it is expected that all four iPhone 16 models will arrive with a new command button, but it will change to be fixed and non-pressure, as it will respond to the user’s touch instead of being a physical and mechanical button. Reports also indicated that Apple was testing the size of the new command button, A version with a size that matches the size of the known volume buttons has been tested.
The report confirms that the design changes have entered another phase of testing under the name of the “Proto2” project with regard to the iPhone 16 Pro, as the project contains 4 configurations of buttons, the first includes a unified volume button with a small command button, and the second includes a unified volume button with a large command button in addition. To the capture button, the third is for separate volume buttons with a large command button and capture button side by side along the frame.
The fourth model, which is currently being tested, has separate volume buttons with a small command button the same size as the current button, in addition to a capture button adjacent to the frame.
The capture button is expected to trigger video recording with a simple touch, and previous prototypes showed the presence of this button on the right side on all iPhone 16 models under the power button.
However, a new design published by MacRumors has emerged that has the capture button located on the left side under the volume buttons.
The capture button is expected to be capacitive, meaning it will respond to the touch of the user’s finger and will not be mechanical.
