The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported this Friday, May 12, that two new tremors were registered that shook the country. As specified through his Twitter account, the first of them occurred at 1:06 am, in the south of the territory.

About 4:45 am a second earthquake was registered. As reported by the SGCthe magnitude of the earthquake was 4.6 degrees on the Richter scale and had a depth of 40 km. The epicenter was Dabeiba, Antioquia.
Recommendations in case of an earthquake
- If you are at home, and only if possible, open the front and bedroom doors, as they might jam and lock you and your family in.
- If you are on the street, look around you and find a safe place. Try to stay away from poles and wires. Stay away from the facades, as parts of it can fall, such as bricks or glass; with caution, go to the center of the street and be careful with the vehicles, it is very possible that the drivers did not feel the earthquake.
- If you are driving a vehicle on the streets of a city or municipality and perceive an earthquake, reduce speed and if possible stop in a safe place (away from posts, cables, fences).
The SGC also recommends that The best thing in this type of case is to remain calm.. “This will allow us to act with greater security. The first thing to do is seek protection. If you are in a seismic-resistant construction, locate yourself near the columns, under a desk or in areas marked as safe, always away from glass or items that may fall,” the entity said.
Then he added: “Try to get out immediately and, during the exit, keep an eye on your surroundings to identify the dangers during the evacuation. Avoid using elevators and stay out of doorways., since they help to dissipate the energy of the earthquake, for which they can break and collapse ”.
Orange alert at the Nevado del Ruiz volcano
In its report of May 11, the SGC indicated that the seismic activity related to the movement of fluids inside the volcanic conduits has been maintained during recent days. In addition, he stressed that there was a slight increase in the number of earthquakes compared to the previous day.
In this order of ideas, the Geological Service was emphatic in reiterating that the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues to be very unstable, so the orange alert level is maintained.
“It is possible that the levels of seismic activity, as well as the levels of degassing or ash output, decrease or be oscillating, in the sense of increasing on some days and decreasing on others. However, this does not imply that the volcano has returned to its normal levels of activity.”, specified the SGC.
