“What day is today?”: a woman’s question to rescuers, following 228 hours under the rubble
A woman asked “What day is today?” 228 hours following being under the rubble with her two children, according to the Turkish state news agency Anadolu.
Rescuer Mehmet Eryılmaz spoke regarding the moment the woman was found, saying: “I was happy to see us. At first I held her hand. We talked, chatted and calmed her down.”
Eryılmaz also mentioned more of their dialogue, saying that he first asked for water, but nothing was given to him without the intervention of paramedics. Eryilmaz told Anadolu that the first thing he asked was “What day is it today?” He also told Eryilmaz that her name was Ela and that she had two children, a girl and a boy.
Anadolu reported that the rescued woman’s name was Ela and that she is a foreigner, but did not mention what nationality.
Anadolu also reported that the names of Ela’s sons are Meysam and Ali Bagdet.
Eryilmaz said that the teams continue with the rescue operation in the earthquake zone, adding that following rescuing two children and a mother, the search for two more people continues.
Ali Parlas, one of the health team staff, told Anadolu that “the health status of the children seemed generally good. The mother might speak easily. She might give verbal responses to verbal warnings. The children they had minor problems due to thirst, but I think their health will improve with the interventions,” Anadolu reported.
The children were flown to Adana by helicopter.
