It seems that the Corona virus strains are almost gone, after British experts warned that “Iris and Pirula” are not the only strains that we may witness this winter, with the emergence of two new strains.
The first is an Omicron subtype strain, known as HV.1, that is prevalent in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Dr. Chris Papadopoulos, a senior lecturer in public health at Britain’s University of Bedfordshire, explained that HV.1 appears to be “more transmissible,” but has not shown the ability to evade vaccine protection or cause more serious disease.
The other new variant, JN.1, is a descendant of Perula and has recently been found in the UK, US, Iceland, Portugal and Spain.
Experts have warned against it, noting that it is more immune evasive than its original strain, Omicron, according to the British Express newspaper.
While CDC officials said they are still “looking for information” about JN.1, it appears to carry mutations that may help it evade detection by the immune system, according to Dr. Papadopoulos.
Therefore, the health expert recommended staying “vigilant” and “observant” for the following symptoms.
“The symptoms that should be monitored with the HV.1 and JN.1 variants largely reflect those we have become accustomed to throughout the pandemic,” the public health expert said.
Symptoms of the HV.1 variant
The professor recommended looking for the following signs of Covid HV.1:
Fever
cough
exhaustion
Nasal congestion
Runny nose.
Symptoms of the JN.1 mutant
Dr. Papadopoulos explained that the strain causes the symptoms mentioned above in addition to some additional signs.
“With JN.1, additional symptoms such as diarrhea and headache were observed,” he said.
While the signs highlighted by the professor could ring alarm bells, there is still a lot that is unknown about these strains.
The doctor added: “There is no evidence yet of new symptoms associated with these variants. It is necessary for everyone, especially those most at risk, to pay attention to the symptoms we know.”
