Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–The former home of the late fashion designer, Gianni Versace, in the US district of Manhattan has been offered for sale for $70 million.
Versace bought the seven-bedroom mansion in 1995 and completely renovated its interior, according to Sotheby’s international property listings.
The palace, built in 1950, offers the buyer the opportunity to “live like a royal”, “own a piece of real estate, and have a history of fashion,” according to the listing.
The home includes 17 luxuriously decorated rooms, spread across 6 floors, overlooking Fifth Avenue, and bordering Central Park.
The floors consist of Italian marble, and Austrian “parquet”, and the house embraces 5 fireplaces, in addition to walls, painted ceilings, and mosaic details.
“Versace’s genius and vision are revealed on the first four floors, each of which showcases the designer’s legendary flair,” the listing said.
Each floor of the palace has a different theme.
There is a marble staircase, and an ornate Greek-style gallery behind the entrance, and the garden floor has hand-painted canvas walls, inspired by a neoclassical English mansion.
The third floor is decorated with a ceiling resembling that of the Sistine Chapel, along with restored 19th-century panels that Versace brought from a palace in Florence.
The top floor offers a double spa bath that the listing describes as “among the finest in town”, while the fifth and sixth floors contain the bedrooms and a Moroccan-style entertainment room.
Versace was among the most influential fashion figures of the 20th century.
The designer emerged with his first independent collection in Milan in 1978, and established his brand with brother Santo and sister Donatella, according to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Known for their sexy silhouettes and theatrical style, his designs have been worn by many of pop culture’s most iconic figures including model Naomi Campbell, star Jennifer Lopez and singer Elton John.
Versace was shot dead on the stairs of his Miami Beach villa in 1997.
Since his death, Donatella Versace has continued to lead the creative vision for the brand that is now under the supervision of the US company Capri Holdings, which bought the brand in 2018.
