Late Comeback by Luguentz Dort Helps Thunder Secure Victory Against Cavaliers

Quebecer Luguentz Dort was at the heart of a late comeback by the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 108-105 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.

After the Thunder erased a 10-point deficit late in the game, Dort sank a big two-pointer with 28 seconds left in the 4th quarter to give OKC a 102-100 lead. The Thunder didn’t trail again after that and the team cruised to victory.

Dort finished the game with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists to help the Thunder sign a second victory in as many games this season. Dort was Oklahoma City’s most used player with 39 minutes of playing time.

His Canadian teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did well with a double of 34 points and 11 rebounds. Chet Holmgren provided 16 points along with 13 rebounds to contribute to the victory.

In the Cavaliers camp, the exploits of Donovan Mitchell were not enough to triumph in a second outing in a row. Mitchell sunk 43 points in the losing cause.

Caris LeVert provided 17 points and Evan Mobley added 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Wembanyama contributes to Spurs success

Victor Wembanyama tied the game with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime and the San Antonio Spurs took advantage to win 126-122 against the Houston Rockets.

After playing the first three quarters without much brilliance, Wembanyama brought out the best of himself in the last 12 minutes of play, both offensively and defensively, to help the Spurs score their first victory this season.

After tying the game 111-111 late in the fourth quarter, Wembanyama added four points in overtime to help the Spurs. He finished the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

“He’s a competitor, of course he’s going to be decisive and do everything possible to win, but they’re all like that,” coach Gregg Popovich said of Wembanyama.

“We showed some good things, others much less. It’s a work in progress. At least they were perseverant,” added the legendary Spurs coach, in place since 1996.

Devin Vassell scored 25 points and Keldon Johnson added 20 points for San Antonio.

In the defeat, former Raptors Fred VanVleet narrowly missed the hat-trick with his performance of 24 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists.

After two home games, the Spurs travel to Los Angeles to face the Clippers on Sunday evening.

Doncic has fun, OMP will wait

The Brooklyn Nets were unresponsive to the exploits of Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks scored a 125-120 victory.

Doncic finished the game with an impressive total of 49 points, in addition to adding 10 rebounds and 7 assists in 36 minutes of play. No other Mavs player reached the 20-point plateau.

Quebecer Olivier-Maxence Prosper was in uniform, but he was not used during the match.
