A Latam Airlines plane was seen on fire as it made an emergency landing on the runway of Lima’s Jorge Chávez airport on Friday followingnoon, the airline reported.
“There was an accident on the runway of the Jorge Chávez airport this followingnoon. The teams of the Lima Airport Partners consortium are providing the necessary care and support to passengers,” according to a Friday followingnoon tweet from Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications.
A few minutes later it was confirmed that two firefighters who were in a truck with which the plane collided died in the event.

Video on social media shows flames from the plane as it slides down the runway in the Peruvian capital.
The Latam Airlines plane, which was traveling between Lima and the Peruvian city of Juliaca, was involved in a ground accident. No deaths were reported inside the aircraft.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Suspend operations
After the accident, the boarding and departure of flights was suspended and the air station will remain closed until 1:00 pm this Saturday, November 19.
“Our teams are providing the necessary attention to all passengers, who are well,” they said from the social network Twitter.
The Callao fire brigade worked on the scene and managed to put out the flames with the special foam used in this type of event.
One of the passengers who had to leave the flight shared a video of the moment in which the troops put out the fire with a hydrant truck.

Confirmed the deceased
The communications department of the Jorge Chávez Airport confirmed the death of the two firefighters in the crash.
