Latam Cargo announced important investments in the Northern Region of Brazil. Starting in April, the Latam Group’s cargo transportation unit will begin operating the new Guarulhos – Belém – Manaus cargo route, which will be operated once a week aboard Boeing 767-300F cargo aircraft, with capacity for more than 50 tons.
As a result, the company will double its capacity for the capital of Pará, as it currently transports cargo to/from the location exclusively in the compartments of passenger aircraft. Furthermore, Latam Cargo announced the expansion from six to nine weekly freight frequencies bound for Manaus from March onwards, with seven frequencies departing from Guarulhos and two from Viracopos, representing a 30% growth in capacity (in kilos ) in relation to the previous year.
All these investments reflect Latam Cargo’s commitment to its customers and to the North Region, an important domestic market for importing and exporting cargo in Brazil. “It is very gratifying to announce this new route connecting Belém to our cargo network and the increase in flights to Manaus. The Northern Region plays a fundamental role in the movement of cargo within Brazil and these investments only reinforce that Latam Cargo is attentive to the market and always willing to invest in a strategic and sustainable way”, says Otávio Meneguette, director of Latam Cargo in Brazil.
The expansion of Latam Cargo’s connectivity in Belém brings agility and makes the transport of pharmaceuticals, auto parts, perishable foods and e-commerce products between São Paulo and the capital of Pará more dynamic. Furthermore, it allows the transport of cargo such as cosmetics, perishable foods and fish between Belém and Manaus.
Latam Cargo currently accounts for 27% of the air cargo market in the capital of Pará on domestic and international flights, according to ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency). In 2023 alone, more than 4 thousand tons of cargo were handled by Latam in Pará, both on domestic and international flights.
In Manaus, Latam Cargo currently accounts for 39% of the air cargo market in the capital of Amazonas on domestic and international flights, according to ANAC. In 2023, more than 40 thousand tons of cargo were handled by Latam in Amazonas, both on domestic and international flights.
The cargo sent to Manaus is made up of commodities that feed the Free Zone industry (parts, machinery, silver steel ingots, etc.); frozen and fresh perishable foods (lettuce, strawberries, broccoli and fish); textiles (fabrics, footwear and clothing), among others.
The cargo departing from Manaus is made up of products produced with its own inputs that Latam Cargo itself often transported to Manaus, such as electronics (cell phones, watches, etc.); batteries; medicines and ready-made parts for machinery.
