Latam Brasil will begin operating the direct São Luís – Galeão – Rio de Janeiro flight in May this year. The new route is Latam’s fifth regular operation at São Luís airport, which already has São Paulo – Guarulhos, Brasília, Fortaleza and Teresina.
With two weekly flights, the São Luís – Rio de Janeiro – Galeão route will be operated on Mondays and Tuesdays, while the Rio de Janeiro – Galeão – São Luís route will be operated on Sundays and Mondays. The route will last 3 hours on Airbus A320 family aircraft, which accommodate 140 to 216 passengers, depending on the model. Latam expects to transport 22,000 passengers per year on the route.
Latam’s investment in the new route, it is worth highlighting, is part of the company’s efforts with the state government of Maranhão to reduce the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) on aviation fuel.
From Galeão airport, people from Maranhão will be able to enjoy the high connectivity of Latam’s air network, with flights operated by the company to 16 other destinations, in Brazil and abroad: Vitória, Salvador, Recife, Porto Alegre, Natal, Manaus, Foz do Iguaçu, São Paulo – Guarulhos, Fortaleza, Caxias do Sul, Belo Horizonte – Confins, Brasília, Porto Seguro, Santiago (Chile), Lima (Peru) and Buenos Aires – Aeroparque (Argentina).
The new route also represents another air option for tourists from Rio de Janeiro and other states to visit the state of Maranhão and discover its natural beauties, such as the world-famous Lençóis Maranhenses, the historic centers of São Luís and the interior, in addition to the countless and beautiful trails, waterfalls and historic buildings.
