According to data from the Ministry of Environment, last year, the level of ultrafine dust nationwide exceeded 36 μg (micrograms) per cubic meter, and the number of days with bad or higher was 17 days, which decreased by six days from 23 days in 2021, recording the lowest since 2015 when national fine dust observations began. .
In particular, last year, there was not a single day when the level of ultrafine dust nationwide exceeded 76μg per cubic meter and was ‘very bad’.
Last year, the average annual concentration of ultrafine dust was 18 μg per 1 m3, the same as the previous year, which was the lowest level ever, and 31% lower than in 2015 (26 μg/m3).
The Ministry of Environment cited the implementation of the fine dust seasonal management system in winter, the decrease in the concentration of ultrafine dust in China, the increase in precipitation in central regions such as Seoul, and the decrease in the number of days of yellow dust and atmospheric congestion as reasons for the overall improvement in the ultrafine dust situation last year.
