Micky Dolenz, the sole survivor of The Monkees, is suing the FBI for failing to turn over the agency’s entire file, reports Rolling Stone magazine.
The background to this case dates back to the Monkees’ first tour in 1967, when an FBI informant then ruled that: ‘During the concert, subliminal messages were presented on the screen, which constituted ‘interference leftist politics,” reads an FBI document that was made available to the public just over a decade ago. “These posts and photos were released during riots in Berkley, along with anti-US posts regarding the war in Vietnam, race riots in Selma, Alabama, and similar posts that drew backlash from the from the audience.”
Micky Dolenz, whose full name is George Michael Dolenz Jr., has now filed a civil suit once morest the Justice Department, citing the Access to Information Act.
The Monkees were the subject of two investigations by the FBI, once for alleged Vietnam War activities in 1967 and another for which all charges were fully expunged.
