Last mobilization before Lower Austria elections – news.ORF.at

In order to mobilize one last time, the parties celebrated their election campaign conclusion today. The ÖVP made the start, calling for a final mobilization at party headquarters. The central message of the ÖVP was once more an allegedly threatening cooperation between the FPÖ and SPÖ. State manager Bernhard Ebner unveiled a state flag in the colors blue and red instead of blue and yellow as a warning and complained regarding the “dirtiest election campaign of all time”. The top candidate, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), was on an election campaign tour in the country.

NEOS invited to the final on the Herrenplatz in St. Pölten and warned of an “Ibiza coalition” in the country following the state elections. The ÖVP paints the blue-red specter on the wall, but actually there is already a black-blue “Ibiza coalition” in the room, said NEOS top candidate Indra Collini, who spoke to NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger and general secretary at her appearance Douglas Hoyos was supported.

Green confidence

The Greens started their “final sprint” with a lot of confidence. In Mödling, top candidate Helga Krismer also received support from Social and Health Minister Johannes Rauch and from the Upper Austrian Provincial Council and Deputy Federal Spokesman Stefan Kaineder. Rauch was convinced that it would be a “good election Sunday”.

At the end of the SPÖ election campaign, ex-Chancellor Christian Kern banged the drum for the red top candidate Franz Schnabl. “Franz and his team have the best answers,” Kern said in front of a few hundred officials and sympathizers on Riemerplatz in the state capital. In his speech, Kern had previously criticized the ÖVP’s material battle for the upcoming state elections and the alleged campaign cost overruns. Schnabl also tried to mobilize once more: “The election campaign is only over when the voting booths are closed.”

In the evening, Schnabl was still together with SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner at the campaign finale with a New Year’s reception for SPÖ women in Pottendorf (Baden district). The federal party leader also appealed to the visitors there to use the remaining 48 hours: “There’s a lot at stake, it’s up to us to convince.”

FPÖ with criticism

With criticism of the ÖVP, the Freedom Party swore to the final hours of the election campaign at the St. Pöltner Klangturm. In snowfall and in front of around 150 officials and sympathizers, top candidate Udo Landbauer issued the slogan “We’re playing for victory”. Mikl-Leitner sells “the voters for stupid”, the bill for it comes “guaranteed on January 29th”. FPÖ federal party leader Herbert Kickl, who, like General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz, gave a rendezvous, blew a similar horn.

More voting cards

According to the state elections authority, 146,309 voting cards were issued for the election on Sunday. Although around 97,500 second homes are no longer entitled to vote, that is significantly more voting cards than in 2018.
