The resignation of the Mondeo did not come as a surprise: Ford announced this back in March 2021. Now it’s a fait accompli: the production of Ford Mondeo cars at the company’s Spanish plant was discontinued in the last days of March. Alas, the press service did not cover this event in any way, but photos of the last released Mondeo were published on social networks by one of the employees of the enterprise. The final was a gray station wagon, which left the plant on April 4th.
The Ford Mondeo was just a few months short of its 30th anniversary: the first generation car was introduced in November 1992. For all the time, the European Mondeo has changed four generations. The outgoing model with the factory code CD391 debuted in 2012 and became almost global: cars were also produced in the USA, Russia and China. However, the American version under the name Ford Fusion was discontinued in 2020, and now the European model has become history. She will not have a direct heir. Now Mondeo has remained only in China: back in January, a new fifth generation sedan.

As for the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, the abandonment of the Mondeo is only the beginning of a reduction in the production program. In the near future, Ford Galaxy minivans and Ford Transit / Tourneo Connect “heels” will also be stopped here, and the single-cab Ford S-Max will not last long. All three will be replaced new Connect, made on the basis of the Volkswagen Caddy model, and these cars will be produced in Poland.
