Give the Gift of Life: Last Blood Drive of the Year
Puerto Madryn residents have a chance to make a life-saving impact during the last scheduled blood drive of the year. On Saturday, December 7, the Hemotherapy Service will be holding a crucial blood collection event at the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco. With a window of opportunity from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this drive aims to replenish local blood banks before the end of the year.
A Vital Need in Our Community
As the holiday season approaches, the demand for blood often rises, making this blood drive essential. “The importance of these collections cannot be overstated. They represent a vital link in ensuring blood availability during critical situations and ultimately saving lives,” the Hemotherapy Service emphasizes. This campaign not only focuses on immediate needs but also on building a robust blood supply for the months ahead.
Who Can Donate?
Individuals who are 18 years or older and in good health are eligible to donate. This initiative welcomes donors of all blood groups and factors. For those who wish to contribute, the Hemotherapy Service offers some helpful guidance to ensure a smooth donation experience.
Preparing for Your Donation
- Arrive well-rested and have had a nutritious breakfast. It’s recommended to prioritize foods like infusions (tea, mate) with sugar, fruits, juices, or cereals, while avoiding dairy products and fats.
- Refrain from smoking at least two hours before and after your donation.
- Avoid consuming alcohol for at least 12 hours prior to donating.
Becoming a Potential Lifeline: CPH Donor Registry
This event also provides an opportunity to register for the National Registry of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Donors (CPH). This registry connects potential donors with individuals in need of a bone marrow transplant, offering the chance to provide a second chance at life.
