LASK defender Boateng begins training as a coach

The 36-year-old is currently completing his first course for the B license with the Bavarian Football Association (BFV). He also wanted to join the Linz U19 team as a trainer, Boateng told “Sport1”. He assured that he could very well imagine working as a coach after his active career ended.

“Many great coaches, such as Thomas Tuchel, started as assistant coaches with the juniors. I want to gain experience there, learn, but of course also pass on my experience to the younger players,” said Boateng about his first steps as a coach.

Contract runs until 2026

Boateng has been under contract with LASK since the summer and until mid-2026, but so far he has not been able to make more than short appearances. After ten years at Bayern Munich, he moved to Olympique Lyon in 2021, but was just as unable to build on his best times there as he was at US Salernitana in Italy.

Recently, Boateng has repeatedly made headlines off the pitch. In a long trial for intentionally causing bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend, the Munich I regional court found the 2014 world champion guilty, but he was only given a warning. A fine of 40 daily rates of 5,000 euros each was imposed with reservations.
