Washington, Sep 19 (EFE).- Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles are the preferred destinations for Latinos in the United States, while Argentina, Colombia and Central America are the most popular destinations abroad, according to data published Wednesday by the Airbnb website.
Data from the rental platform shows that Latinos and Hispanics in Miami and Houston have Las Vegas as their preferred destination, with 56 and 58% of preferences, respectively, while those in Chicago and Los Angeles have New York at the top of their list with 42 and 47%, respectively.
In Phoenix, Latinos prefer to travel to Los Angeles (43%), while the foreign destinations with the greatest growth are in Bogotá (Colombia), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Nogales (Mexico).
The portal has also detected strong growth among Hispanics in Miami who want to go to Buenos Aires, San Salvador and Sabaneta (Colombia), while the new tourist magnets for Los Angeles residents are Bariloche (Argentina), Floridanápolis (Brazil) and Aguascalientes (Mexico).
A similar trend is seen in Chicago and Houston, where preferences for Colombian destinations such as Envigado and Barranquilla, as well as Buenos Aires, Antigua Guatemala and Antiguo Cuscatlán are growing.
In 2023, the number of guests searching for accommodation on Airbnb who chose Spanish as their primary language in the US increased by 32%, while among hosts this preference for Spanish increased by 13%.
In general, a higher percentage of Hispanics prefer Airbnb over traditional hotel accommodations, due to the value they place on space and family travel, according to data from the multinational.
According to a survey commissioned by the platform, 60% of Latinos and Hispanics in the US (the primary market for this rental and experience platform) are more likely to consider staying through Airbnb, compared to 49% of non-Hispanics.
These data were presented Wednesday as part of the presentations given this week to mark the start of Hispanic Heritage Month and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) meeting.
“As a Latina, I am proud to share that Airbnb has also been a long-term partner of organizations such as UnidosUS, LULAC, the Hispanic Wealth Project, and the National Association of Hispanic Realtors (NAHREP), to help ensure that the Latino community can access the benefits of hosting and build generational wealth,” said Viviana Jordan, Policy Campaigns Manager at Airbnb, during her participation at CHCI.
