LA’s Minaret Records Celebrates Emerging Jazz Talent

Minaret Records, a Los Angeles based label, is making a name for itself by championing fresh sounds in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. Founded by Yousef Hilmy, the label is dedicated to amplifying diverse musical voices. This commitment is on full display with their second annual winter festival. Get ready for an immersive weeklong celebration of jazz music, spanning a diverse range of styles and performers. The festival promises a captivating lineup, from intimate solo trombone performances to innovative genre-bending acts that fuse alt/pop with jazz. Music lovers of all tastes are sure to find something to enjoy. “Hilmy’s vision for Minaret is to create a platform that amplifies the voices of young, talented artists, telling the story of not only L.A. jazz but American jazz as a whole.”

A Champion for LA’s Jazz Scene

Hilmy,a passionate advocate for music, began his journey by collaborating with familiar artists, steadily building a loyal following within the local LA community. As he immersed himself in the scene, he identified a critical need: many gifted jazz musicians in Los Angeles lacked proper support systems and representation. Recognizing this gap, Hilmy felt compelled to take action and create a platform to showcase these unrecognized talents.

A New Voice in L.A. Jazz

The Los Angeles jazz scene is teeming with talent, but discovering fresh, emerging artists can be a challenge. Recognizing this gap, a visionary entrepreneur saw an opportunity to create a platform that would amplify the voices of young musicians. “I saw there wasn’t really a young label in the L.A. jazz scene, and there were a lot of really great artists sharing space,” they shared. “ I thought of it as something that would champion these young artists and try to create a label that could tell the story of L.A. jazz music and really just American jazz music.”
