Large volume electronic waste can be collected at home in DF

‌Free service can be scheduled for disposals over 30 kg. Lighter waste should preferably be disposed of at voluntary delivery points

Fridge, blender, electric shower or even simple headphones. Disposing of electronic equipment requires special care. In addition to producing toxic waste and having complex recycling, this waste can be quite bulky. In the Federal District, in addition to voluntary delivery points (PEVs), the population also has home collection that makes everything more practical. And the best part: the service is free.

The convenience is the result of a cooperation agreement signed between the Secretariat for the Environment and Animal Protection of the Federal District (Sema-DF) and the Brazilian Association for Recycling Electronics and Household Appliances (Abree). It was from this partnership that the federal capital’s reverse logistics system emerged.

“It’s a concept linked to shared responsibility”, explains Maria Fernanda Teixeira, Solid Waste Policy Implementation Manager at Sema. “Everyone does their part to ensure that electronic waste is recycled, when possible, or disposed of in an environmentally appropriate way.”

In reserve logistics, the consumer is responsible for correctly disposing of the waste, looking for voluntary delivery points or scheduling home collection. The company hired to manage the collection of this material is responsible for sending it to recycling associations. And the recycler is responsible for separating what can be reused.

The concern about correctly disposing of electronic waste is justifiable. Most equipment contains toxic substances such as flame-retardant polymers and heavy metals (mercury, lead and cadmium) in its components. “These are elements that can contaminate soil and water, causing serious damage to health”, highlights Maria Fernanda.

To request home collection, simply fill out the Free Collection Form by clicking here or make an appointment via WhatsApp, by calling (61) 3301-3584. For the provision of the service to be viable, the volume of electronic waste must exceed 30 kg – below this weight, an evaluation of the products will be carried out.

You can also dispose of your waste at one of the nearest voluntary drop-off points. Check the address of each unit at this link.
