Large-Scale Police Operation at Belgian-Dutch Border Targets Drug Trafficking and Drug Tourism

The Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourg police have been carrying out a large-scale control since Saturday followingnoon at the border post located along the E25 in Fourons. The operation mainly targets drug trafficking and drug tourism.

Saturday followingnoon, the police have already been able to seize quantities of drugs and prohibited weapons. Drivers have also been caught in the act of driving while intoxicated. The final results of the operation will be announced on Monday.

“This international operation aims to combat various criminal phenomena such as the trafficking of drugs, human beings and arms across borders. It is a prelude to the new Benelux police treaty which will soon come into force. vigor”explained Frans Weekers, Secretary General of the Benelux Union.

“We are on the border with the Netherlands. It is therefore a good place to tackle cross-border drug problems. Fourons is located in the center of the Euregion and a stone’s throw from Germany“, for his part declared Joris Gaens, the mayor of the town. A hundred agents are taking part in the operation.
