Two hours later, the all-clear: “There is no active threat,” Washington police tweeted.
The US Senate was on summer recess and the majority of members were away from their offices. ‘Please stay away from the area as we are still investigating. We will continue to communicate with the public here,” it said initially. “Our officers are searching the area in and around the Senate building,” police said.
Apparently a false alarm
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington told > that the call about an active gunman appeared to be a false alarm. “No injuries and no shooter were found,” said the spokesman.
The office building is just a few blocks from the courthouse where the former President Donald Trump in court on Thursday to appear to hear his latest indictment.
